There is No Shortcut to Becoming an Email Marketer

Email Marketing as a way to promote your product.

When I started promoting on the internet the last thing I thought I would be doing is email marketing. It was a big yawn.

My excuse was that I needed a big list to even send a promotional email. I think I just felt overwhelmed.

It is a big job with steps leading to that email you are about to send.

Lets start at the beginning:

  • You need a squeeze page.
  • You need to promote your squeeze page.
  • This means you need traffic.
  • The leads that you capture will than be stored in a autoresponder.
  • You will then use emails to communicate with your leads. These emails are stored in campaigns in your autoresponder.

Everything now is up to you and your autoresponder.

Lets talk about the 4 steps at the top concerning how you capture your leads.

Before we start there are several names that a squeeze page is called, its also called a capture page and a landing page. It all comes down to the fact that the reason they all exist is to capture leads.

The simplest form you can use is a squeeze page. This is a splash page with an autoresponder form on it. It also has a head line in bold letters at the top telling the reader what you are promoting. With at least 3 bullet points giving the reader information about your product.

The squeeze page should be straight to the point with as little words as possible. The graphics should be colorful. The CTA should be agressive.

Squeeze pages are used in traffic exchanges and safelists where people are flying through lots of promotions that are vying for their attention. You should try to stand out from the crowd.

Here is an example of a squeeze page:

Notice there is 2 boxes for the visitors name and email address, plus a button text. This is the form which gathers this info and sends it to your autoresponder.

Splash Page:

Notice the Splash Page does not have an autoresponder form just a CTA button. That button is conected to an affiliate link where the visitor can join as a member in what is being promoted.

This is the simplest promotion tool, the more elaborate example would be a landing page like this.

There is so many elements about a squeeze page that has to be right, the copy, the headline, the images, the CTA button, the color. Its very tough.

You can model other peoples squeeze pages. Find out what they did right and analyze what could be improved and apply it to your squeeze page.

Here is an example of the best squeeze page I have ever used, it gets me more leads in this niche

Do you know that 8 out of 10 people will read the headline while only 2 out of 10 will read the rest of the content. Your headline is the first impression you make on your reader.

Notice the headline on this capture page, does it make you want to read the rest of the page. For somebody who wants to make money this is a very enticing headline.

Sub Heading

A sub heading is necessary if you feel that your proposition is not covered by the heading. Remember that you want to tell people about your proposition in as less words as possible.

In the squeeze page below the heading and sub-heading seem to become one message.

Here is a capture page where the Heading is enough to convey the message the owner wants to send. Also the CTA button stands out nicely with the text on the button clear and to the point.

Call To Action

Some people call the CTA button the most important element on your capture page. The button, when pressed sends the information that is gathered to your autoresponder. This is where the visitor is turned into a lead or a subscriber.

The text on the button is the “Call To Action”. It should be to the point and have a sense of a time limit. Example I made up:

  • Sign Up Now
  • Sign Up Free
  • Get The Details
  • Try It Free

The color of the button is very important. The button has to stand out on the page. You can use the color that represent your company. The color should be bold and strong and make sure you can read the text on the button. Make the text a contrasting color. Black button, white text for example.

There is a new kind of capture page that has more to it then the traditional one. It is a built in funnel as well is a capture page. I will explain it to you in my next post.

Squeeze pages are just half of the equation though. The other half is the autoresponder they are attached to.

There is no shortcut to becoming an email marketer.

The capture page or as it is called, the squeeze page is the first step of your journey in email marketing. You can create your own or have somebody else create one for you. Autoresponders offer capture page templates that are very nice and will save you alot of time.

In conclusion I will tell you about this new capture page that is like a funnel. These cutting edge capture pages are going along with the trend that you need to nuture your visitor as well as offer a nice lead magnet.
