Increasing Traffic To Your Website With SEO

Oh No!  Not another Article On Traffic

I know I feel the same way.  I have certainly read my fair share of articles on how to increase traffic to my website or blog for that matter.  I feel like throwing in the towel on ever making any money with my blog.  The reason being That Traffic Thing.

There are a ton of things I have to do in order to get a traffic jam to my site.  Uhmm, Let me see,

  • Great content is the top of the list.  Break this down to:
    • Keywords
    • length of article
    • no plagerism

I think you know the drill.

  • Awesome, Bodacious Title with at least 4 to 7 words.  The reason for that is your title is your first keyword.  it can not be to short or to long.  If the google bots have forgotten to put their contacts in and can’t see your title you will be looked over.
  • Description of Your Blog or Website.
    • You know when you put a search into google and it takes you to page 1.  You find what you are looking for by this description.

This description is actually written by you.

It is called the Webpage Meta Description.  Google finds this description in your source page of your website.  So your eyes do not see it on your webpage but the search engines will read it.

Example of a Meta Description

Use Google Analytics to watch your blog or website.

Put a tracking code script on your website to collect data.  You will find this very useful to see how many visitors you have received, what the bounce rate is, how long they stayed on your page.

Keywords are extremely important. Have keywords in your title, first paragraph. Your Heading and at the bottom of your article.  Don’t throw keywords around just for the sake of getting recognized by the bots.  Make sure your keywords are relevant to your article.

If you have one keyword through your article it will be recognized and that is good.  In order for your article not to appear shallow you need some related keywords and synonyms.

My main keyword is “Increasing traffic to your website”.  Now lets enhance that with some synonyms such as:

  • Improve traffic to your website
  • drive traffic to your website
  • create traffic to your website
  • drive traffic to your blog

Length of Article

Your content is what the bots crawl in order to index your blog or website.  Not only do they look at the keywords but they also take into consideration the length of the article.

The article should be fresh.  Google wants you to become an authority on your niche and you can not do that with old content that is never freshened up.  They will overlook you and you will not be seen by anybody.

Try to publish the most informative content in your industry.  the more valuable content you publish the better chances of you becoming an authority site.

Keep re tweaking your articles as often as possible and publishing new blog posts to keep in the good graces with the search engines.  Do this by researching your niche.  The more of an authority you become the more it will be reflected in your work.

A 1000 word blog has a better chance of ranking well in the search engines then a 300 word blog. Also the keyword has a better chance of showing up in a longer article without the feeling of it being stuffed into the post for the only sake of it being the keyword.

Images in your article

Images are an easy way to drive home an idea you may want to convey in your blog post. Just make sure that you are not infringing any copy rights. Avoid these problems by using Public Domain images or better yet why not your own photos.

Images also break up the text.  But probably the most important thing they do in relation to this article is they are keyword friendly toward your blog. the alt tag of the image is read by the bot also.

I will put an image on the blog here and tell you the alt tag:

<img src="" alt="image of increasing website traffic" />

<img src=”” alt=”image of increase web traffic” />

Last but not least, Plagiarism

You want to write your own content so that you can be the authority.  Of course you will need to do research but, this is where it becomes iffy, you need to put your information in your own words.

Here is a link to a blog post by TorqueMag that does a good job of explaining the finer points of plagiarism:

How to avoid plagiarism on your blog or website

In conclusion

This is the first in a series of articles on increasing traffic to your website.  There is so much information on this subject that it will have to be broken down in a series.  I hoped this helped you in getting your business out there and I will see you soon.
